You will be asked to identify each artwork—provide the artist’s name, the title of the work (in italics) and the date—and write a short essay about each pairing (two essays in total).
Write a short essay, demonstrate your knowledge of the course material by explaining the significance of the pairing to the main themes and specific arguments covered in the assigned readings and lectures—focus on two or three key themes. The two short essays must a) address how the pair relates to key themes presented in the course materials b) compare and contrast the works using formal and contextual analysis. Responses will be graded on content and clarity. Include a brief introduction and conclusion and divide your points into separate paragraphs.
