This research paper is about the Brazilian film “City of God” (Meirelles and Lund, 2002), Afro-Brazilian representation, and their relationship to realism, sensationalism, “aesthetics of hunger” and “cosmetics of hunger”. I am required to use 3 scholarly articles as secondary sources in addition to the film “City of God” as a primary source. I also included the documentary “City of God – 10 Years Later” (Borges and Vidigal, 2013) as a supplementary primary source for its relevance, which is helpful to touch on. Therefore, the 5 sources to be used are as follows:
1. “City of God” (Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund, 2002)
2. “City of God — 10 Years Later” (Cavi Borges and Luciano Vidigal, 2013)
3. “Fernando Meirelles’ City of God” By Zita Nunes
4. “Revisiting the ‘realism’ of the cosmetics of hunger: Cidade de Deus and Ônibus 174.” by Felicia Chan and Valentina Vitali
5. “From the Aesthetics of Hunger to the Cosmetics of Hunger in Brazilian Cinema: Meirelles’ City of God” by Sophia A. McClennen
