Guidelines for Writing Abstracts (Summaries) of
Journal Articles or Web Sites for Clinical Microscopy
You will be required to research professional clinical laboratory journals (available in the Alkek library) or the Internet and submit abstracts on clinical laboratory articles or topics specific to urinalysis or body fluids. An abstract is a summary of a document highlighting key points. The purposes of this assignment are to:
1. provide the student an opportunity to become familiar or extend their familiarity with common clinical laboratory science journals and their locations in the library,
2. afford the student an opportunity to find various clinical laboratory web sites,
3. enable the student to find journal articles or topics pertinent to the topics currently covered in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) courses,
4. give the student practice in summarizing the article or web site in order to identify key points, AND
5. give the student practice in writing clearly and concisely, using correct grammar, spelling and proper word processing techniques.
The journal article or Internet topic you choose must be related to topics covered in Clinical Microscopy.
You are expected to read the article thoroughly and summarize the key points. A cover page is expected in addition to the summary, citing the source of the article or topic and the author.
You must have less than 20% plagiarism according to Turnitin. You may resubmit as often as you wish until the due dates listed below.
