1st Assignment The Snapchat Case
To learn more about the “Snapchat Cheerleader case,” i.e. Mahanoy School District v. B.L. (2021), here are a couple of sources:
PBS News Hour (video)
Oyez [This is a great resource for all things Supreme Court.] https://www.oyez.org/cases/2020/20-255
Opinion from Fox News: Jonathan Turley: Supreme Court sides with cheerleader
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/supreme-court-cheerleader-ruling-victory-free-speech-jonathan-turley
Opinion from MSNBC: Grappling with an understandably complicated issue, the justices get a “D” for future guidance.

What do you think of the decision? First, how might it relate to the other cases we’ve discussed or the landmark student speech case, Tinker v. Des Moines (1969)? Given that social media can have effects both during and outside school hours, what role should school administrators be playing in policing student’s speech? Consider there might be some problems that could be more obvious than this case, say, in the case of bullying.
