You are to write an academic paper describing and analyzing the following topic:

Theoretical Foundations for Situational Crime Prevention

Rather than adopting a general approach, situational crime prevention focuses on specific problems, places, times, and/or persons. This approach is based on the assumption that there will be an emphasis on problem identification and planning prior to implementing a program or operation designed to “prevent” crime and disorder.

In this paper, you need to address the following:

1. Define the concept of “situational crime prevention,”
2. Briefly describe the theoretical foundations for situational crime prevention (rational choice, routine activities theory, and crime pattern theory),
3. Identify and describe the 5 categories of situational techniques as constructed by Cornish and Clarke, and
4. Describe the SARA model from the context of implementing the various situational crime prevention techniques.
Format and Style:

You are to write an academic paper describing and analyzing the above aspects of the topic. Remember that “how” you say it is just as important as “what” you say.

1. Follow a structure

– Introduction – tell the reader what you are going to say,
– Body – say it,
– Conclusion – tell the reader what you said.
In the opening paragraph, introduce the main points that will be covered. Then cover the main points in the body of the paper. At the end, provide a conclusion that summarizes “some” of the main points that were covered. Select a few specific details from the body of the paper.

2. The content is comprehensive, accurate, and persuasive.
3. The paper develops a central theme or idea, directed toward the appropriate audience.
4. The paper links theory to relevant examples of current experience and industry practice and uses the vocabulary of the theory correctly.
5. The major points are stated clearly, are supported by specific details, examples, or analysis, and are organized logically.
6. Use section headings (introduction, a heading for each aspect, and conclusion) throughout the paper, (in other words, use 6 headings: 1 for the introduction, 1 for each the paper elements, and 1 for the conclusion)
8. Spell check and proofread,
9. Use an academic writing style. Write in 3rd person. Do not use words like “I,” “me,” or “my.” Do not use the words “we,” “our,” or “us.”
Write using a plural tense. This will eliminate the “he/she” situations.

10. Use APA format (with in-text citations and at least 3 references including the textbook),
11. Double space everything.
