My stance is that it would be unethical as memories shape who we are as people. Please try to talk about how the film is less about the relationship itself but rather about ones interal struggle that occurs as a result with trying to process and deal with a relationship that has passed. By erasing his memories of clementine. Joel is essence erasing a part of himself. I believe the implications of erasing painful memories is that healthy people may to erase something. Memories exist for a reason. as painful as some of these recollections can be they can function as tools for survival.
What’s the point of forgetting the past if it means you are doomed to repeat it.
