Test Critique
You will be required to write a 3-page, typed and double-spaced test
critique. The test critique must be on a Cognitive, Educational,
Personality or Clinical Test. You must discuss the test’s psychometric
properties, construction, development, and utility.
Be sure to include the following:
• Introduction/Test Conceptualization
• Information about the Normative Sample
• Reliability and how it was determined (e.g., test-retest, split-
half, parallel/alternate forms, internal consistency)
• Validity and how validity was determined (e.g., content validity,
criterion-related validity, construct validity).
• Critique (i.e., based on what you found, do you believe this is a
good test and/or valuable test? Are there problems with the test or
limits to its use?)
[For clarity and organization, you may want to consider using the
above bold-faced words as headings for sections in your paper.]
The focus of the test critique must be on the qualities of the test and
not on the construct that it measures. Moreover, because the papers are
only required to be 3 pages, they must be dense. The format should
follow American Psychological Association standards. You must cite at least 5 references from respectable psychological journals (e.g., Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Abnormal Psychology) or books. You may cite other references
(e.g., Time, People, Psychology Today) in addition to the 3 primary
articles, but they cannot be used to replace the journal articles. The
text from this course cannot be cited as a reference.
Points will be taken off for each of the following: Late papers (10
points per day), too short, untyped papers, major deviations from APA
format, using excessive quotes to fill-up space, unusually large print,
and use of inappropriate references for your main sources of
information. If you use the text or lecture as a reference, you will
loose 10 points. Note: The paper is intended to be a learning
experience, not a torturous task. I am willing to help you.
Papers must be submitted as PDFs on Canvas (TurnItIn). Please write in
your own words as TurnItIn will identify plagiarism, which will like
result in an “F” for the course.
