1. The purpose of this assignment is to promote critical analysis of portrayal of immigrant families ( NOT REFUGEE) in the media with reference to the academic literature on families. 2. For the assignment, you arerequired to collect one or more media artefacts ( YOUTUBE VIDEO, ONLINE ARTICLE) that reflect IMMIGRANT FAMILIES. 3. Using your readings and studies in this unit, you are required to construct a critical analysis of perspectives presented in your selected media image(s). 4. Use the selected media image(s) to argue: How the media artefact chosen reflects public perceptions of the family type chosen. 5. Your essay will include discussion of contemporary theories and research regarding this family type and how you would work within your community context (for example early childhood setting, school, family support service) to ensure this family type is adequately supported and resourced to raise their child/ren. 6. Ensure that your analysis is constructed with reference to scholarly, evidence-based perspectives on theories and concepts of families and that you state clearly at the beginning of your essay the family type you have chosen (this will include a description of this family type supported by contemporary theories and literature).
