1. Compare and contrast their business practices. Topics that you might address include but are not limited to:
– Corporate Mission Statements
– Executive Management Team
– Marketing/Promotional Strategies – ie. target markets, advertising,
global presence
– Investors – ie. share price, volume, dividends, stock splits, etc.
– Employees – ie. benefits, employee satisfaction, workplace safety
– Consumers – ie. product or service choices, product safety
2. Determine which company you think will be more successful in the future based on your comparisons.
– What defines success? Success can be measured through a
combination of profitability, social responsibility, share price,
market share, innovation, and more.
3. You will prepare a minimum of a five-page report (including Title Page and Reference Page) of your findings. Double-spaced. 1” margins. 12-point font – Times New Roman
4. A note regarding references:
Based on past experience the use of only corporate websites is generally not sufficient to get a true feel for a companies’ success (or failures). For example, corporate websites always make the company look good, when that is not always the case. Corporate websites tend to have a lot of “fluff” so to speak…meaning they are as much a marketing ploy as they are an information center. In essence, corporate websites can not stand alone as scholarly research items. Real research from outside sources that report on corporate affairs coupled with the target corporations own vision of themselves (the website) is the only way to gain true background knowledge. You should have at least 3 references.
5. A note regarding writing the paper:
Do not waste too much space outlining the history of the company. The basis of the paper should revolve around comparing the companies’ core competencies and determining which one will be more successful moving forward.
