For the final project will expand on the issue address in the policy proposal. Each student must submit a ten (10) page paper that includes the following topics related to the policy being proposed: *Restate the problem and the relevance of that problem as written in the policy proposal *Legislative mandates *Budget implications *Social and political ramifications *Ethical considerations *Potential risks or challenges *Community engagement and stakeholder outreach in support and opposition *Critique of existing services and programs that address the problem *Propose solutions and recommendations to solve the problem *Discuss the strategies of advocacy you might use to advocate for this policy? *Be certain to review and discuss any advocacy strategies used by AARP. *Be certain to compare and contrast the AARP strategies with the types of advocacy strategies you suggest using. *Students may elect to include other relevant topics to clarify the policy issue being proposed. *At least six (6) journal articles within the past three years and three (3) current event references from newspapers, magazines, books or the internet must be included to substantiate the student’s position as outlined in the paper. *Then, each student will develop a 15-20 slide PowerPoint presentation to share with the class. Presentations will be scheduled during the last scheduled day of class when the written papers are also due. You must submit and present on the scheduled date– no makeups.
