It is important that as you read the book, ″Lying on the Couch″ that you are actively engaged in the discussions surrounding this book. You are not reading the book for novel pleasure, but to make connections between what we are learning in class and how it is applied in the field. You will want your notes for our class discussions to help you for the book report.″ After reading the book, students will complete a book report, adhering to APA guidelines, students will analyze the varying ethical concerns noted in the book, Learners will examine the ethical code of their chosen profession in a minimum 3 page paper. Information regarding these professions and the codes of ethics can be found throughout the course and in your text: Introduction to Professional Ethics in the Corey, Corey, and Callanan textbook. Your book report will follow the guidelines provided below: You are to identify ethical dilemmas in the book, share your thoughts on the dilemmas, and support your thoughts with the code of ethics of your choosing. Learners will conclude the book report with one of the four strategies: 1. Answer the question ″So What?″ Show your readers why this paper was important, identify how this paper can be useful and meaningful for someone in the field. 2. Synthesize, don′t summarize: Don′t simply repeat things that were in your paper. Demonstrate certain ethical points, demonstrate the important of these points and provide support to demonstrate that these points are not random, and make sure to have examples to support these points. 3. Redirect your readers Give your reader something to think about, perhaps a way to use your paper in the ″real″ world. If your introduction went from general to specific, make your conclusion go from specific to general. Think globally. 4. Create a new meaning You don′t have to give new information to create a new meaning. By demonstrating how your ideas work together, you can create a new picture.
