The assignment needs to be three to five pages in length and fully address each part of the prompt. You will pick one prompt, find at least one scholarly source (using EBSCO or JSTOR or other PVCC databases) to support your answer and fully address the prompt. Websites do not count as scholarly sources. You can have more than one source but must have at least one peer-reviewed source. I will post a short video on how to access these databases.
When using an article for support you want to include how some of the main ideas from the article add to your information. You want to go beyond just including one or two quotes from the article. It needs to be clear that you read and understood the article and are using it to help explain your ideas. The sample papers provided do a nice job of this. If using quotes, make sure they are short and cited correctly. Do not only use quotes for your support.
The papers must be grammatically correct, and all citations need to be correct. The papers need to be written in third person as these papers are not opinion based. You will need a correct APA or MLA format with correct citations. Please double space and use a 12-point font with one-inch margins. Each paper needs an introduction, supporting paragraphs which include the outside source, and a conclusion. Points will be deducted if these requirements are not met.
All work must be in your own words. Plagiarized papers will receive a 0 and an academic dishonesty report. Please email me with any questions and know we can also set up a Zoom to talk more (or use Zoom office hours).
PICK ONE
Pick one of the major theories of sociology (structural functionalism, conflict theory, feminist theory, symbolic interactionism) and explain the major ideas of the theory. Now, pick a social issue/concern and explain that issue using/applying the theory. For example, how would conflict theory discuss divorce or how would structural functionalism discuss poverty. You need to use at least one academic source (peer reviewed journals) to support your answer.
