Explain how Urban Design Project and Communication Skills– Illustrated Poster or equivalent of 4000 wordsThe ability to communicate through writing and drawing (by hand or with computer), models, photographs and oral presentation is essential to the effective practice of urban design and planning. Practitioners continue to develop and refine these skills throughout their careers. The aim here is therefore to give students knowledge and chance to practice in order to develop skills to use and evaluate the various communication methods and tools available and to select the most appropriate techniques to the given task.The aim of this coursework is to introduce students to graphical, oral and written communication and presentation skills in practice of Urban Design in order to effectively analyse spaces and develop proposals for Urban Design projects as well as to convey design ideas to others. In particular, the project will focus on:To develop an understanding and the ability to evaluate change in physical, economic and social environments in the context of the regeneration or new urban settings.To improve the understanding of the nature and processes of design, analysis and development of public realm led mix use regeneration schemes.To understand the process of urban design and the cross between disciplines (urban design, landscape, highways etc)The goal of this project is to take The Al Karama Area in Dubai, and improve on the quality of life by making the area more walkable, giving better access to public transport, and making the nature of the place more human friendly. Look into making policies for building owners to improve on the quality of the buildings as well as adding bicycle lanes for bicycle users, among many other things that can make the area as human friendly as possible.
