Required Use of THREE Multimodal Texts
One primary multimodal text located on top of the above Multimodal Text List, New Reading #7: “What Is It About 20-Somethings,” Robin Marantz Henig (2010), to an external site.)
Your choice of TWO additional texts chosen from the Multimodal Text List, previously used in the semester (or including the one from your own research)
Overview
This semester we have worked with texts with a variety of topics. You have read and discussed friendship, race, culture, technology, faith, and globalization. These may all or partly have influence on the young people’s growth and make them what they are. As Henig argues, emerging adulthood is the product of all economic, cultural, political, and perhaps other factors today.
In this project, you will have the opportunity to explore what factors have produced emerging adulthood, a stage between adolescence and full adulthood. This may also give your the opportunity to think over how you are going to plan your future with reference to what Henig has discussed. See the prompt and following guidelines on how to approach this project.

Research Prompt:
Select one of the following disciplinary focuses:
[How does race and stereotypes complicate what Henig says about emerging adults? (Yang and Tan)What is faith’s potential and function in today’s emerging adults? (Madeline Albright)In what ways does cosmopolitanism or globalization help to promote emerging adulthood today? (Friedman and Appiah)How does technology (or friendship) play a part in promoting emerging adulthood? (Maria Konnikova)]
Expectation for this Research Writing Project:
A range of multimodal texts that can include: images, articles, video, podcasts/audio, fiction, graphic novels, etc.
A critical understanding of emerging adults (or adulthood) you are exploring
A critical understanding of the ideas and modes of the multimodal texts you have selected
Effective use of language structure, use of analytical language, academic vocabulary and key terms related to your research project
Inclusion of images, photos, links, or video/audio that connect and help illustrate and support your research project. This is a requirement of this research writing project.

Recommended Tasks for Getting Started
Tasks Requirements and Tips
Consider your own topic of interests Multiple read of the new reading 7
Select your question See how you can answer the question.
Read carefully through the prompt question(s), making sure you understand the language used and task(s) required. This is a key step toward developing an appropriate argument and is a major part of the grading criteria of our EAP rubric, titled “Assignment Requirements.” Remember, this is not a “reader response” essay in which you state your reactions to the multimodal texts. Your primary goal in this assignment is to respond to the question and present your original argument based on the three selected texts. If you have any questions about the assignment prompt, please ask!
Select secondary texts that will help you answer your chosen question. After reflecting upon the new reading, select at least two secondary texts that will help support your claims about your selected question and topic. In your Annotated Bibliography assignment, you will be asked to cite these 3 sources and describe how each will be used in response to the prompt. Note: you do not have to select secondary texts with the same argument! Sometimes it is easier to support your ideas through contrast.
Develop an organizing structure paragraph-by-paragraph In academic writing in the U.S., research papers are generally expected to follow an organization of introduction, body, and conclusion. Consider how you can organize your response by paragraphs to the prompt in the following way:Introduction – Refer to Canvas materials.Body – Refer to Canvas materials. Conclusion – Refer to Canvas materials.
Revise and write multiple drafts Revise your writing project, completing two or more drafts. Revision involves re-thinking and re-shaping the analytical essay many times–Does your introduction fully respond to the tasks set forth by the prompt? Is there a more logical way to organize your ideas? Have you incorporated the required multimodal texts in mean
