Furthermore, there is an increased risk of criminal behavior for individuals with certain maladaptive personality characteristics and childhood maltreatment severity. Identifying the multifaceted histories of childhood maltreatment through a transdiagnostic approach targeting the early development of associated maladaptive personality traits and exhibited internalizing and externalizing symptoms, early interventions can help reduce the risk of criminal behaviors in later adulthood.
