The essay itself is about the country of Israel. I have already written the first 2 pages that address a brief history of Israel, how the country was formed, and the early wars in the mid-1900s.
Discuss and analyze your case study’s
processes of interest articulation and interest aggregation. Some questions you might want to address are: Do individuals have legitimate channels for interest articulation? Are there free media? What is the nature of political participation (i.e. how do individuals participate in politics)? What type of interest group system does the country have (i.e. what is the relationship between interest groups and the government)? What are some examples of interest groups and what role do they play in the policymaking process? Are there any challenges or room for improvement in terms of interest articulation? Discuss your country’s interest aggregation. Some questions you might want to address are: What type of party system does the country have (two party, multiparty, single-party)? Is it a competitive or authoritarian
party system? What role does clientelism or the patron-client relationship (personal interest aggregation) play in the aggregation of interests? What type of electoral system does the country have (i.e. single-member
district plurality, majority run-off, mixed system, proportional (open or closed list)? What role, if any, does
the military play in interest aggregation? How well are interests aggregated in the country? Are there any
challenges or areas of improvement in terms of interest aggregation?
Think about how interest articulation and aggregation play a role in the functioning of the political
system (inputs). Can you connect this at all to the political culture of your country?

s your country a democracy or an authoritarian system? If a democracy, is it a presidential, semi-
presidential or parliamentary system? Is it a unitary or federal system? Is there a constitution? If so,
what are the defining features of the constitution? Which institution of government (executive or
legislative) has primary policymaking power? What are the limits on government, if any (such as
checks and balances, judicial review)? How is the legislative branch structured? Is it unicameral or
bicameral? How are representatives selected? How is the executive selected? Are there term limits
on the executive? What role does the bureaucracy play? Is it effective?
What are issues facing the structures of government and policymaking process (i.e. corruption, lack
of checks and balances, lack of judicial review, powerful executive, gridlock, majority vs. minority,
etc.)
I also want you to be thinking about how political culture/ socialization, history and the
processes of interest articulation and aggregation impact the government structures and their
policymaking. You really want to start making connections concerning how each of these
interdependent parts/ processes interact with each other and ultimately impact the overall
functioning of the political system.
