Your major assessment in the course will be a short Literature Review that you work to create from your Topic Proposal & Annotated Bibliography (10%). The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) outlines that a literature review, is a document or section of a document that collects key sources on a topic and discusses those sources in conversation with each other (also called synthesis) (Purdue Online Writing Lab, n.d.). Purdues OWL explains that literature reviews are undertaken not just to discuss works of literature, but to also refer to research or scholarship on any given topic.
Who the key scholars on the topic are.
What the key terms and central theories in the field are.
Where the central debates or disagreements lie among the experts.
What is the geographical basis of the scholarship and are they associated with a particular academic or research institution.
What, if any, are the areas of consensus (or facts) established by the field.
