Explain how early European modern art movements (covered in chapters 13-16) influenced modern graphic design (covered in chapters 18-19). The graphic design associated with early European modern art movements had a significant effect on modern graphic design. In this essay, chose a design from chapter 18 or 19 of your textbook. Then, compare and contrast your chosen design with images of early European modern movements discussed in chapters 13-16 to elucidate how the styles of early European modernism influenced your chosen design. European modernism includes movements such as cubism, futurism, art deco, expressionism, surrealism, dada, de Stijl, the Bauhaus, constructivism, Sachplakat, etc. You may compare/contrast your chosen design to one or more of these movements using at least three images. You are encouraged to go beyond the textbook to find the best possible examples for your argument. This essay is not research based. Instead, use your textbook and class notes. You may cite your textbook simply as (Meggs, pg#) and class notes as (lecture title, date). Your arguments should consider form and style as well as socio-historical and ideological perspectives. Like your previous research paper, this essay is argumentative in nature. Make sure to have a clear thesis. Also avoid I statements in academic writing.
