• Use sub-headings to help structure the essay.
• Referencing key references (academic literature and also policy documents if relevant) is essential, except where providing one’s own critical reflections and arguments.
MARKING RUBRIC
Marks will be awarded for the following:
• Background (20% of part 1 mark):
o Clear and concise summary of the background to the work, together with a descriiption of the aims of paper.
• Descriiption and critique of methods (20% of part 1 mark):
o Clear descriiption of the methods used in the paper
o Critique of the methods used, outline the appropriateness of the methods to the example in the paper.
• Descriiption and critique of quality indicator (20% of part 1 mark):
o Critique of the quality indicators used, including reflection on other potential indicators that might have been considered.
• Conclusions and critical reflection (20% of part 1 mark):
o Conclusions on suitability of the proposed methods.
o Some reflection on the methods in other settings.
• Academic writing (20% of part 1 mark):
o Clearly written using an appropriate style for academic writing.
o References appropriately selected and cited.
o Work appropriately structured, with good use of sections and section headers.
