Background: In this paper, our vision is a waste-free society. Our mission is to address the contemporary issues related to degradable plastics, for example, Mendacious environmental statements , Unreliable degradability, Insufficient supporting facilities . Our goal is to put on the agenda a new regulation that entails mandatory monitoring codes and reminders to be printed on all plastic bags marketed as degradable.
Our strategy consists of three parts: a) developing a network that connects various concerning parties, including scientists, field experts (i.e., not affiliated with a university or research institute), NGOs, and citizens, to build momentum in bringing about changes; b) to increase public awareness and foster widespread citizen participation, both in terms of consumer choices and political involvement; and c) use the built momentum and public participation to putting said new regulation on agenda. We anticipate the entire process to take five to ten years.
