1. Obtain scientific research about the pros and cons of vaccinations by reading medical journals and articles from such websites as Google Scholar, PUBMED, CDC, NIH, United States Public Health Department, Mayo Clinic, and Medline. You may not use Google or Wikipedia. You need to discuss vaccinations in general. There is plenty of information about the many vaccinations available such as the Polio, MMR, Varicella, etc. Since the COVID vaccine is a new vaccine, there is not enough long term data that would be reliable to make a proper judgment on its efficacy or safety. I would prefer you just research vaccines in general.
2. You will make a list of 5 pros and 5 cons that you read about in any of these articles. Each statement listed must include the article title and date the article was written. Points will be deducted for any statement that is lacking its source.
3. Type your pros and cons lists into a word document and save to your computer. Then upload into the assignment page. First, open the vaccine assignment found in Module 9, then choose your saved file and then click on the submit button in the upper right corner. This will automatically place your document into speed grader which allows me to grade it using the rubric. I have attached the rubric for your reference to explain the scoring method.
4. This exercise is to assess your ability to gather scientific facts, organize those facts into sections, and then formulate an opinion based on those facts.
5. Once you have made your pros and cons lists, you are to write a short essay in your own words (2 to 3 sentences) explaining why you would choose to vaccinate and base your conclusion on the facts you gathered from the pros list. You will then write a second essay explaining why you would not choose to vaccinate and base your conclusion on the facts you have gathered from the cons list.
6. So to review, you are making two lists, one pro, one con for the use of vaccinations. Two short essays will follow with conclusions based on the scientific facts that you have gathered.
7. You are uploading the word document into the assignment page.
If you have any questions or comments, please respond to this announcement so that all students will benefit from the information.
