Does your organization have a strategic plan and how familiar are you with the content?
The strategic planning process is about looking ahead, beyond your organization’s immediate future, to achieve a certain set of goals. My organizations Strategic Plan is a set of goals and objectives used to improve the Department’s workforce, performance, and operations. I was able to locate a copy of the organizations strategic plan, however, its outdated as its a few years old. The organizations website stated that new goals and objectives for 2020 2025 are currently being developed. Previous Strategic Plan Goals include: Customers, Operations, Processes, Workforce Development, Technological Innovation and Facilities. Staff input was used to create the goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan.
How often do they update the plan and report results?
The goal is to update the plan at least once every five years and report the results on an annual basis but because of the covid-19 pandemic, this is not happening.
Second Student Post:
The organization I work for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power does have an extensive strategic plan that is a living document that emphasizes core values, customer service, success measurements and vision statements. I am most familiar with the customer services aspect because that is a the division I work in. The core values and customer service expectations have remained the same but the success measurements and five year vision statement is updated every 3-5 years.
Recently, there has been a large emphasis on sustainability so LADWP has established long term goals to invest in infrastructure to reduce the City of Los Angeles’ carbon footprint and build out renewable energy sources to complement LADWP’s energy portfolio. Many of the changes to the strategic plan are initiated by action plans to track progress such as Key Performance Indicators and communication of organizational goals throughout the department.
