You live on a small island off the coast of a large landmass. In the center of the island is a volcano which has lain dormant for centuries. The rich volcanic soil has provided work and prosperity for the occupants for generations, and they have built a thriving independent mini nation. Life has been good for all and there is virtually no crime. Because of this, successive generations have seen no need to address the question of re-working legislation and the old laws and penalties which were established long ago still lie on the statute books, including Capital Punishment. There is a small prison on the island, and it houses just one prisoner a notorious recidivist murderer who is on death row and has exhausted all avenues of appeal and is due for execution in a few weeks. Suddenly, the islands government receive word from scientists on the mainland that the volcano has become active again and is about to erupt. There is conclusive evidence that the island will be completely destroyed within the next few days. The community will cease to be, and its members will be dispersed throughout the world and the inhabitants are already busy loading their possessions into small boats to flee the island. Your team members comprise the islands prison board and you have been instructed to settle any outstanding issues before leaving the island.
