I am having difficulty narrowing in on a topic because the assignment is so broad.
My Possible Research Questions are as follows:
Did slave owners use family separation as a tool to control their labor resource (slaves)? In what ways?
Did abolitionists use the idea of family and family separation to promote feelings of sympathy towards the movement to free slaves?
Were slaves more or less likely to attempt freedom when they had family, legally or otherwise?
What was the structure of the slave family and how did it change in different circumstances?
