How does the genre of speculative fiction (or visionary fiction) allow the writer or director to explore and put forward that message? What kind of norms or histories of our present are unsettled or questioned in the work? Or, what kind of logics of the present extend into the imagined future, and how does the writer or director critique them? What kind of historical, socio-political, and cultural contexts or events do you think the writer or director references? Who is the protagonist of the narrative, and what does their story tell us? What kind of spaces are imagined in the narrative, and how do they make us think of change? What is at stake in this narrative of the future, and how does it reflect on our present?
