Last week, we considered scientific findings as a meaningful source of “God’s truth.” We looked at ways science and Scripture can “work together” to give us a more complete understanding of something. This week, I would like you to think of a specific example of scientific findings that appear to be at odds with Christian ethics or teaching. (Try to think of an example that another student has not already written about.) Is there a consensus among scientists on this topic? Do you have any doubts about the scientific findings or their interpretation? Is there a consensus among Christian teachers? Are these teachings directly taught in Scripture? Are they essential to the faith? Might this be a situation where Christian teachings need to be revisited (such as the medieval teaching that the earth is the center of the universe)? Explain.
