Technology Graphic
Materials: Data collected as journal entries throughout your day in regards to technology, paper and drawing utensils or digital images.
Part A: Data Collection
Spend at least 24 hours collecting data. The result should be a detailed log/timeline of each time you interacted with technology, what piece of technology you used, and what you used it for. You can do this by jotting down information each hour or so. Be sure to include the log at the end of your assignment (it does not count towards the word count total).
Part B: Displaying Information
Based on your data collection, “map” out and design a graphic of your interaction with technology. The graphic could detail the time of day, type of technology, whether you used the technology directly or indirectly, the relationship between your use of technology and “work” and your use of technology and “play,” etc. Examples of graphics you can create: pie chart, bar/line graph, cartoon drawing, frequency table, tally chart, graphic novel, mosaic chart, pictograph, Venn diagram, flow chart, cartogram, hierarchy diagram, or picture timeline, etc. If you have another graphic idea, make sure to run it by Ashleigh first.
Part C: Writing
After reading Chapter 9, logging your technology use for 24 hours, and designing a graphic of your interaction with technology, you will answer, discuss, and debate the following questions in essay format (not bullet points):
Start with a solid introduction to technology.
How has technology changed in your lifetime?
How do you define technology?
Discuss several pros and cons of having constant access to technology.
What is your favorite piece of technology you own? Why?
What is your least favorite technology to use? Why?
Describe all the different ways you engaged with technology during the 24 hours you logged.
Is this a “typical technology day” for you? Explain.
Discuss why you picked a certain format for your graphic? Would a different type of graphic have worked better?
End with a strong conclusion that ties everything together.
Don’t forget to include your detailed log and the graphic you created in the same document as your written assignment so you can earn credit.
The expectation is a thoughtful, reasoned, and well-written response that demonstrates a high level of critical thinking. As always, please pay attention to writing mechanics. Word Count Requirement: 450 Words minimum.
Be sure to include your technology log, graphic. You can use MLA
