Prompt:
In many works of literature, a main character has a mentor or mentor-like acquaintance whose influence dramatically changes how the character views not only himself or herself, but the world as well. Focusing on The Sword in the Stone where Merlyn exhibits such a strong influence, either beneficial or harmful (you decide), on the Wart. Then, in a well-organized essay, discuss the nature (type) of the mentor’s (Merlyn’s) influence AND its significance to the work as a whole.
Requirements:
1. You will write an introduction that begins with the general topic, so you will need to refer the the prompt to see what the general topic is about. Then the middle of the introduction will briefly discuss how the topic is relevant to the text you are addressing. Lastly, you will end the introduction with your thesis statement.
2. Each of your three to four body paragraphs need to begin with a topic sentence and end with a concluding sentence that wraps up the paragraph and transitions to the next paragraph.
3. Each of your three body paragraphs should have a minimum of 2 quotes per paragraph. Note: quotes are placed in the middle of the paragraph surrounded by discussion, quotes are not written towards the end of the paragraph, quotes are not written back to back, and quotes are not written AFTER the commentary.
4. All quotes need a lead-in with in-text citations after the quotes. In-text citation example: (White Book #. Chapter #. Page #) (White 1. 4. 30)
5. You will need to demonstrate YOUR insight and critical thinking skills! You need to demonstrate the sophistication of your thought process and writing!
6. You will write a conclusion that MORE than adequately wraps up the paper.
