1,000 words, double-spaced Using the form located on Blackboard you will construct an outline for the research essay. You may not delete anything from the form, but you may add additional points as needed. Write in complete sentences. In the “They Say” section, you will write a brief summary of the critical conversation, synthesizing the various arguments made by the scholars from your secondary sources. You should name specific scholars and their specific arguments. In the “I Say” section, you will articulate your own thesis. In the “Main Points,” your topic sentences should be argumentative and reflect the overall thesis of the paper (they should not be statements of fact or plot summary). Evidence should come primarily from the literary work itself (in the form of quotations or careful paraphrases), with secondary sources providing supplemental support with your explanations. Provide in-text citations for each quotation and paraphrase and for any idea that is not your own.
