Whether in a fire, storm, earthquake, or other natural or man-made disasters, disaster preparedness is critical for improving survival and reducing loss in any population. Preparation is key and can make a difference between life and death for survivors. Knowing what to do, staying calm, and not panicking will allow all organizations to better manage any emergency. You are tasked with interviewing someone in your organization to ascertain the key principles and/or practices that guide the organization’s disaster preparedness plan. Next, please use these principles to develop a disaster preparedness plan for your new hospital/ health organization. This plan should be evidence-based, address the needs of the population with chronic and infectious diseases, include at least three intervention activities, outline the individual and interdisciplinary roles of the emergency response team, and be easily implemented in any health system.
