Our culture is Chinese
Research your own food culture, and create your own cultural cookbook. Research the historical origins of your cultural foodways. Consult other
cookbooks and cite your sources, and be sure to access the resources on food culture in
bCourses. Consider the histories of your food culture—how did the traditions and practices
associated with your food culture develop?
Include in the end of your cookbook a 2-page, single-spaced essay reflection, responding to
this reflection and questions:
Reflect on the film “Gather” and the way that both colonization and industrial agriculture
devastated Indigenous food culture. Today, as described in the film, a “restorative revolution”
is underway that is reviving Indigenous cultural foods and foodways. How has your own food
culture been influenced, altered, or impacted by the industrialized agrifood system, or/and, in
what ways has your food culture benefited from or contributed to the continuance of the
industrialized agrifood system? What would (or what does) a “restorative revolution” look
like for your food culture?
Please read through the example (“1”). What we need to do is the parts that are similar to “Forework” and “Debunking Misconceptions of Korean Food Culture” like storytelling. But of course, we need to talk about Chinese food culture. Please contact me about how we should work on this assignment. We have a week before due date and I am really willing to work with you together.
