Comrades, Marx was a great public intellectual of his time, but alas he is no longer with us. It is up to us, to channel Marx his ideas to understand contemporary predicaments. You, comrade, are being humbly asked to devote some time to carefully reviewing the 17-minute segment of the TED Radio Hour from NPR February 4th episode: “Kevin Roose: How can we stay relevant in an increasingly automated workforce” (“Roose Transcript”). You have the podcast to listen to there, and the transcript to refer to and quote.

Your Task: Your task now, comrades and students of Marx, is to add TEN evidence-supported feedback comments in a Word Document. Steps:

Choose a sentence or paragraph you are responding to from the “Roose Transcript”
Quote the passage (sentence[s]) in an MS Word document (put quotation marks around it) and right underneath, write your “feedback comment”
Repeat steps 1+2 in the same document, so that all 10 comments are in the same document (quote followed by your feedback comment, quote followed by your feedback comment, and so on)

You must use evidence (At least THREE Marx Readings, to enlighten the public on what Marx’s view would be on the specific content/claims discussed in the “Roose Transcript”. The comments could for example sometimes support the claims, sometimes reject them or sometimes discuss their importance.

No external research is necessary for this assignment. More than that, no external sources should be used, and refencing external sources will harm your grade on the assignment. Even more than that, your assignments will be run through Turn-It-In for plagiarism and misusing external sources, you risk the consequences of being cited for plagiarism.

Each comment should be: (1) around 5-7 sentences long; (2) always properly citing your ideas referencing specific passages, rather than books; (3) defining your terms when necessary; (4) responding directly to the point made in the passage you chose to quote; (5) logical, coherent, showing understanding of the position you represent.

Grading Scheme: 10 comments (each after the quoted passage/sentence) in a MS Word Document, each worth 0.5%, for a total of 5%. No more than 10 comments will be graded.
This is what you are aiming for: 5%/5% when, each comment is (1) around 5-7 sentences long, and no longer than 10 sentences; (2) always properly citing your ideas referencing specific passages from the Marx Readings/lecture, rather than books/whole lectures; (3) defining your terms when necessary; (4) responding to the point made in the paper where the comment appears; (5) logical, coherent, showing understanding of the position you represent. A works cited is done properly.
If any of the elements 1-5 are missing, the comment doesn’t count towards the 5%. Improperly doing any of the above 5 components will result in the entire comment not counting.
Ex. If you have 8 comments that fulfill all the elements and properly cited ideas from Marx readings as evidence, but two comments do not have such evidence, the grade will be 8/10 or 4%/5%, if the works cited is done properly. Improper or missing Works Cited will result in a 1% deduction.
If you put in effort into the comments, but they are incoherent/illogical/don’t show proper understanding of Marx, has discretion to give you a mark from 0-60 on the assignment (0-3%/5%).
If the ideas are great, you define your terms, directly respond to the point made in the paper, but don’t specifically cite evidence from AT LEAST THREE Marx readings, your entire assignment will achieve 0/5. Without citing specific relevant evidence, no comments are worth writing or reading. You are also reminded that making up references is also an academic offence.
