In this week’s lecture we discussed some of the important factors that were present in New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century to allow the music to develop and thrive. We have also discussed elements of the music in relation to cultural identity. In this discussion please identify at least one aspect of New Orleans and the music that was developing there at the time. In doing so how do you see this aspect of the music as representative of American identity? Why is this important? What is the value of recognizing this in terms of understanding an American experience?
