This should be a carefully
crafted essay of no fewer than 500 (without header, citations or quotes) words.
You must have a thesis statement, use complete sentences and correct grammar. All prompts involve at least two articles.
Be sure to include two articles in your discussion and frame your essay within
the concepts of the authors. You can accept or refute the authors’ ideas. You must include citations, a Works Cited
page, and be sure to give the author credit for his ideas. This is an
analytical essay, which means that you should synthesize ideas to make a
compelling argument. You will need to provide details from the articles in the
prompt and the moral problem you choose. Please submit your essay through
Turnitin and bring a hard copy to class. Please note the number of the question
you are answering, and do NOT copy the prompt into your Essay (Turnitin score
will be unusually high).
2.) All three religions
contain some moral duty to care for the poor, yet all three religions exist in
contexts where poverty is overwhelmingly present. Is the principle role of
religion more about charitable giving or economic justice? Should religions be
more concerned with compassion for individual neighbors or unjust systems that
maintain economic class hierarchies?
Considering two religions (Judaism, Christianity, or Islam) describe how its sacred texts deal with the existence
of the economically poor and disadvantaged. Each of your readings consider
questions concerning which economic system best serves the demands of these
religions. Pick two of the readings and discuss whether they challenge or
support the ethical guides of the religious traditions you chose. In the end,
would you conclude that the primary ethical responsibility a person has toward
those who are economically disadvantaged is more a matter of individual
compassion and care, a duty to challenge systems of economic injustice, or for
everyone to take responsibility for their own economic fate?
