PROTOCOL FOR MICROBIOLOGY MCB2010C COURSE PROJECT WITH GRADING RUBRIC
Directions and General information
The purpose of this report/research is to emphasize the importance of microbiology in modern health care professions and biomedical sciences, both in practice and education. It entails clinical part and non-clinical part as well as the career fields that connect the two segments.
Students can select to either “reviewing a primary scientific article/peer-reviewed article” or “conducting a scientific research/investigation in microbiology” for this assignment.
Students can choose to work individually or collaboratively and submit BOth a formal written report and a narrated presentation.
The written report must be submitted in document (.docx, .doc, .pdf) format and all presentations must be submitted in video format. All presentations must be narrated to demonstrate your ability to verbalize medical terminology correctly.
You are required to write a 2000 word (~ 4-5 pages) formal written report and create a presentation that summarizes your report for the rest of the class. The presentation must be narrated or accompanied by a script to expand on any bullet points
• You may use either MLA or APA style for this project, but both the paper and presentation must employ the same style.

Written Report: Correct use of medical terminology and abbreviations
25-30 points
The report utilizes at least 50 medical terms and 10 medical abbreviations. Precise definitions are given in plain English.
19-24 points
The report utilizes 20-49 medical terms and 5-9 medical abbreviations. Precise definitions are usually given in plain English.
0-18 points
The report utilizes less than 20 medical terms or/and less than 5 medical abbreviations. Definitions are not precise or in plain English.
Written Report: References and citations (either APA or MLA)
17-20 points
All resources and graphics included are impeccably cited within the presentation and on a Reference page at the end of the presentation. There are no errors in APA (or MLA) formatting.
At least 5 credible resources are used.
13-16 points
Most resources and graphics included are cited within the presentation and on a Reference page at the end of the presentation. Multiple minor or one or more major errors in APA (or MLA) formatting may exist. At least three credible resources are used.
0-12 points
None or most of resources and graphics are not cited within the presentation and on a Reference List in correct APA (or MLA) format. Less than three credible resources are used.
Written Report: Technical Quality
17-20 points
The quality of work is exceptional with no spelling, grammar, or mechanical errors; the work is very well-organized; sequencing is logical and smooth.
13-16 points
The project reflects an acceptable level of work but with multiple minor spelling, grammar, or mechanical errors that occasionally interfere with comprehension; the work is partially organized; sequencing is clunky but is essentially effective.
0-12 points
The project reflects an unacceptable level of work with multiple spelling, grammar, or mechanical errors that definitely interfere with comprehension; the work is not well-organized; sequencing is not logical and very difficult to follow. The report is defective in standard English language.

The presentation has ordinary visual appeal. Although it is reasonably understandable, it is loosely organized and does not use white space (spacing around and between paragraphs) effectively. Most graphics are used with permission or are copyright-free. Background colors and graphics are minimally appropriate to the subject matter but are so bold they interfere with the presentation of the report.

Persons with visual disabilities would have problems reading (i.e. red text on green background.
