Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate your ability for social analysis and inquiry by researching a European country of your choosing. You will demonstrate your knowledge about the social and economic conditions in the country by focusing on topics such as population, language, religion, culture, economy, political organization, and environmental issues.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Identify human and physical geographic traits of a European country of your choosing.
Analyze primary sources of information (statistical data, surveys, interviews, legal documents) and secondary sources of information (documentaries and scientific books and articles.)
Apply geographic inquiry, such as the analysis of graphical models and map investigation.
Discuss multiple forms of diversity in a European country, resulting from its natural environment and historical development.
Requirements:
There are two main components of this assignment:
A 3-5 page, 10-12 font, double spaced country profile.
A reference page with at least three academic sources in APA citation format.
Instructions:
Collect and analyze primary and secondary sources, including course materials, as references for the profile. Useful sources of information, relevant to the topic, are:

World Population Data Sheet
United Nations Development Program Human Development Index
BBC country profiles
Google Public Data Explorer (This resource has information on various public data resources including those listed above).
Global database includes data sets on many different topics
IndexMundi includes detailed country statistics, charts, and maps compiled from multiple sources.
Develop a European country profile using your sources. The profile should be 3-5 pages, double-spaced in 10-12 font. Include geographic interpretations of the following topics, indicated with descriptive heading for each topic covered.
Location.
Population.
Political status.
Natural environment. Resources for agriculture. Resources for industry.
Type of economy.
Internal arrangement and organization.
External connections and relationships.
Problems.
Think critically, and balance the primary sources of information with the scientific articles and books. Answer following questions:
What is the demographic situation in the country?
What are the main advantages and disadvantages of the current social, economic, and political organization?
What are the most significant environmental problems this country faces in the 21st century?
Discuss the multiple forms of diversity in this country, resulting from its natural environment and historical development. Answering the following questions:
How do the migration processes taking place in Europe nowadays contribute to the ethnic and racial composition of the population?
How is the European integration diversifying the modern economy of the country?
Create a Reference Page with at least three academic sources in APA citation format. These should be the primary and secondary sources you collected in step 1 of this assignment. The reference page is not counted as a part of the page count requirement.
