In some cases, hormonal imbalances and genetic abnormalities lead to diverse sex development. In the text, Infographic 11.1 visually explains how one’s sex is made up of many layers with different influences. Occasionally, a baby has intersexual development, which refers to having conflicting or ambiguous biological indicators of male or female in sexual organs. Klinefelter’s syndrome, Turner’s syndrome, or androgen-insensitivity syndrome are some common causes of intersexuality.
Although most people have clearly defined sex characteristics, approximately 1% of people are found to have intersex traits at birth. Medical professionals often pathologize these individuals as having a sexual development disorder or needing surgical or hormonal intervention. Begin exploring this topic by viewing this short

Post at least a 500-word discussion on the discussion board that addresses the following items:
How is intersex identified?
What’s the issue with how intersex has been traditionally treated?
How do you think you might react if you gave birth to an intersex child? Would you seek surgical or hormonal intervention for the child? Why or why not?
If you discovered that one of your dearest friends is an intersex individual or struggling with gender dysphoria, how might you help support them as they navigate the situation?
