There will be three posts from three different Forums and write in about 250 words how participation in the discussion forums has contributed to your learning. But there is only two becasue I had missed one so it will be based of the two I Will be psoting below. You will be marked on your engagement, insight, and analysis for each of the discussion post- 5 marks each; and 5 marks will be allocated for your writeup.

Please read the two post and WRITE 275 WORDS. On what these disscussions have contruibbed to my leanring and what it means to me.

Dissussion post one Question: What do you understand by nomothetic and idiographic explanation of a social phenomenon? Discuss which of the two approaches you will take towards your proposed project and tie it up to your proposed research design-experimental, quasi experimental, longitudinal, cross-sectional, or case study design.

My post: Nomothetic explanation is a method of displaying a variable of interest in connection to a large population of people by combining numerical data and objective knowledge. It also, means that persons or individuals are researched in a broader perspective, with larger groups of people categorizing personality traits or behaviors. The idiographic explanation is a tendency to specify that tries to comprehend the significance of distinctive cultural or subjective occurrences by examining persons or special events in time. It is also a form of qualitative research that instead of discovering basic rules and principles, focuses on providing a thorough description of a person or group based on the thoughts and feelings of the persons investigated.
The idiographic approach and case study design will be used to tackle towards my final project , which I aim to investigate how individuals mental health were affected and some still are during COVID-19, the vaccines mandates, the restrictions and the lockdown.A case study methodology is ideal because it can handle both quantitative and qualitative data which will allow me to collect data and gain a better understanding of how it affected everyone individually during the time period.

Discussion post two Question:Discuss the operationalization of concepts in quantitative research. How would you operationalize the concepts in your research (in case you are doing quantitative or mixed methods research)? or Discuss critically the operationalization of concepts in a study (In case you are qualitative research).

My post: In quantitative research, operationalization refers to the transformation of abstract notions into quantifiable observations. In a questionnaire or an interview, it is the process of turning concepts into indications or particular questions. It’s a method of measuring things that aren’t always straightforward to measure. Concepts are based on our personal experiences or a broad understanding of something. It is easier to collect data on things that are not directly observable using operationalization. In quantitative research, operationalization is critical since it is necessary to determine the variables that will be researched. Quantitative research is often operationalized so that researchers may derive from their empirical findings and have an objective perspective rather than the subjective perspective that qualitative research methods might provide. A Likert scale, which measures research by offering a 5-point response ranging from 1 to 5, is a common method in quantitative research. A negative response is normally elicited by 1-2, whereas a neutral response is elicited by 3 and a positive response is elicited by 4-5. As long as the topic is open-ended, any form of question concerning an opinion about a subject can be asked on a Likert scale. I am doing a qualitative research on the impact of Covid-19 on mental health. The Likert scale is a study that could help in conveying the concept.
