This is my preliminary thesis or vision for the capstone project:
This senior capstone project needs to be heavily rooted in scripture, statistics, and creative, imaginative ideas. This project should bring in the Biblical narrative about justice in the Bible, imprisonment, disenfranchised, the poor, and what that meant to God and its role in Jesus’ ministry and Paul and others. This project then needs to turn and relate that to the lack of resources, legislation, and readiness of the juvenile justice system how the system is inherently against the rights of children as a whole. More specifically, this project should consider the juvenile justice system’s role on people of color and tie that back to how that went against everything in Jesus’ ministry. My goal is to create a nonprofit that focuses on juvenile justice and juvenile justice reform by stepping into the process early on in the court proceedings. Suppose the juvenile fits the program’s criteria instead of going through court and allowing the outcome to be decided by a judge. In that case, they complete a thorough, intensive program that provides them with mentorship, leadership, education, and means to find their passion. This will allow them to get out of their former situation and set them towards a better life and future. (This idea can be more flushed out with research and vision as you write out the project, but it must be rooted in scripture and academic sources). I want to tie this into the church somehow, but ultimately, this is for the juvenile justice system.
There will be a lot of open communication while writing the project to get a better sense if needed.
