Find a job or internship you would like to apply for or a graduate program (for a graduate school interview) and conduct a virtual 30 min-1 hour mock interview with a trusted family member, mentor or peer. Treat it as if it were a real interview: dress in business casual attire, share your resume with them in advance via email or Zoom during the call, along with the job/internship description or share the website for the grad program.
Post-interview: You will write a one page reflection asking yourself, “Would I hire myself?” Or “Would I admit myself into this graduate program?” Integrate and share the interviewer’s feedback and reflect on what you believe you did well and which areas you need to strengthen and work on moving forward. Do you think you are employer-ready? Did you show up professional, prepared and confident? What was one of the key takeaways from your experience? Where did you shine? Where did you realize you have room to grow and develop?
The interviewer should ask you the questions below and is encouraged to take notes and share constructive feedback for you to consider. You are encouraged to record yourself to see how you performed during this mock interview. This is not a requirement but a recommendation to watch back on your own to observe your speech, body language and mannerisms.
