Nursing informaticist’s provide input and participate as key team members in the process of vendor selection and implementation for various types of regulatory compliant and user-friendly clinical systems and applications. They are a part of all stages in the System Life Cycle (SLC)/System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
The NITP will be the collaborative creation addressing an identified problem in your clinical setting which may be solved with the implementation of a new software system design. This assignment will aid in meeting Course Objective #2: Examine current and future technologies as they relate to the support of patient care, such as electronic health and medical records (EHR/EMR), patient monitoring systems, and medication administration systems.
Ask your facilities nursing informaticist questions; and the internet for reliable peer-reviewed, researched information on nursing informatics IT sources. Using these resources can help you find an already existing resolve to your identified problem which you can build on.
The following topics should be addressed in your NITP:
Background information related to the problem: How did you determine an existing/assumed problem could be addressed or a requirement solved with the development or implementation of an EHR or other system application? What are the benefits of addressing the existing/assumed problem the requirement? Provide scholarly support.
