Policy Proposal Requirements/Guidance 1. Your policy proposal must focus on:- •one area of collective labour law and •one area of employment equality legislation. 2. Based on, and supported by, your in-depth research of the areas you have chosen to focus on, write a policy proposal of no more than 3,000 words (plus or minus 10%) excluding footnotes and the bibliography. There is no word count for the bibliography, which should contain all the sources that you have read and consider to be relevant for your proposal. 3. You should spend approximately half of the proposal discussing the collective issue and half dealing with the equality matter (so roughly 1,500 words on each area). 4. There is no set format for the proposal but in it you should: •Explain the issues you are focussing on. •Discuss how effective the existing law is. •Consider the advantages and disadvantages of the current system. •Refer to the political, social and economic context of the law. •Consider the extent to which the law is in need of reform. •Explain how the law could be improved. •Comment on the likelihood of reform in the current context. The Policy Proposal is worth 50% of the overall mark for Employment Law.
