Write a rustiness film review.”The Cranes Are Flying
is a film about war and its violent disruption of a
peaceful fabric of everyday lives. Here I juxtapose a still
from the movie and two authentic photographs
showing the Opera and Ballet House in the city of
Odessa in 1941 and 2022. These days, in the spring of
2022, we can’t help but think of war zones taking over
our own mental territory. For this week’s question l’d
like you to choose the most personal screenshot in the
film and explain your choice: it can be something
traumatic or, vice versa, emotionally uplifting. However,
I also ask you to keep in mind that you are selecting
from an artistic medium which collides imagery and
psychological perception, hence also try to explain how
exactly the director and his cameraman (the same
genius, Sergey Urusevsky, of “I Am Cuba”) achieve this moving effect by artistic means?
