The final examination of the course will be the production of an essay. This essay must
work upon an idea that has been developed through the course and its plural content. To show the
argumentative and hermeneutical capacity of the student, the engagement with the course and the
understanding of the many aesthetic and historical facetsthat have been developed during this
semester, the essay must work upon three works from different authors and epochs from the time
of the wars of independence and romanticism to today (For example: García Marquez, Pedro Pietri
and Valeria Luiselli).
The structure is free to the student’s initiative and the manner in which they wish to
approach the different texts. However, we recommend that in the essay you introduce from the start
the chosen corpus and the main idea that is going to be used to weave your arguments. After this
introduction, one can follow by presenting the methodological procedures and conceptual
framework that is going to be applied. After, most of the essay should focus on the works and your
interpretation, sustained by arguments and quotes from the texts that you have chosen. For the
conclusion, one should be able to give enough space to resume and connect all the tangents
developed.
