Use the World Values Survey to explore a relationship between an independent and dependent variable. The method of analysis will be the crosstab. The entire assignment is to be completed as an SPSS syntax file.

Use the country Algeria from the survey attached below
Lab instructions:
1) Select a particular country to focus on. Your choice must be unique in your lab group. Indicate by March 3 three options to your lab instructor, who will make the final selection.
2) The syntax file must begin with COMMENT lines that identify the following:
• Your name and student ID;
• Your lab group (e.g,. A2, B1);
• The particular “wave” of the World Values Survey you are using.
3) Indicate at the top of your syntax file, in the form of a COMMENT, your hypothesized relationship between x and y. Identify, precisely, which variable is “x” and which one is “y,” and why you think they are related (i.e., provide some rationale).
4) Build a cross tab model with two variables (an independent and a dependent variable). Explain as COMMENTS what variables were chosen. 5) At least one variable needed to be collapsed into fewer categories. If one of your variables is continuous, collapse it as well. Explain as COMMENTS how you re coded all variables.
6) Generate a cross tab with your independent and dependent variables.
• Include column percentages and any appropriate statistical measures (chi-square, correct measure of association).
• Avoid low cell counts (less than five), and absolutely avoid empty cells. If necessary, try new variables, or reconsider the re-codes.
• If the cross tab is not statistically significant, try new variables, or reconsider the re codes.
7) Right after the cross tab commands, write COMMENTS that interpret the results, focusing on the following:
• Scores of statistical measures;
• Strength of the association;
• Distribution within the cross tab (i.e., difference between actual and expected counts, column percentages); indicate what they all suggest about the relationship between x and y. Explain, clearly and concretely, how y appears affected by x.
