Short Story Writing Assignment
Your next essay will be a literary analysis, just like you
wrote when you did your “Eveline” essay.
However, in this paper, you get more choice in terms of what story you
write about. One other major difference is that research is required for this
essay.
Choose one of the stories and possible topics listed later
on this assignment to write a critical analysis. For example, you could look at symbolism in
“The Yellow Wallpaper” or the use of dreams in “Where Are You Going, Where Have
You Been?.”
Research is required; you might find that you want to
research on PTSD for “The Red Convertible” or dreams for “Where Are You Going,
Where Have You Been?” Your research will
depend upon which story you choose to write about, but it should be primary research
about the topic you are writing about. Make
sure you cite your outside source(s) using an in-text citation and on the works
cited page.
In writing your essay, you should use the essay elements we
discussed for our “Eveline” essay including:
1) an introduction with an attention-getter, background info, the author’s
name and work, and thesis statement 2) body paragraphs that include a critical
