In this paper, you will identify the rhetorical strategies Gladwell uses in his text. Your introduction should introduce his work, the general argument of the text, and your thesis claim that states how and why rhetorical appeals and fallacies are used. You will identify at least 3 rhetorical appeals and/or fallacies used in the section, explain what they are, tie those to specific moments in the text and articulate what effect those appeals and/or fallacies have on the reader. You can use any combination of appeals and/or fallacies but you must have at least 1 of each (meaning at least 1 fallacy and at least 1 rhetorical appeal). You should also consider the author, their purpose, their intended audience, and the timeliness or relevancy of their argument.
You must use and cite Gladwell’s Outliers. You must also use an additional outside source to define your rhetorical techniques, uses, and fallacies. You may use the open-source text provided in this unit overview.
This paper must include a full introduction paragraph that utilizes CSC. After the introduction, the paper must include multiple body paragraphs that follow the TAXES. Each body paragraph should contain at least one quote though stronger papers will have multiple supporting examples. The paper must wrap up with a conclusion paragraph that gestures towards the importance of the topic beyond this individual assignment ie. what are the implications of what you’ve identified?
