Assignment: Use PsycINFO to find a peer-reviewed empirical research article about a study that is related to the pop science article you found in Homework Assignment 1 OR a new pop science article. Both articles should be related to psychology as a natural science. Note that the pop science article MAY include a clear reference to a study or an author who has published peer-reviewed research (that makes the assignment somewhat easier).
Then, answer each of the following queries related to these two articles either using 1) a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation OR 2) a Microsoft Word document with a minimum of 750 words. Whichever option you choose, you must elaborate with some images and “flair” (not much, but some!) and include the following information:
1. Provide the same or similar information about the pop science article you chose in Homework Assignment 1 OR a new pop science article (you may copy & paste from Assignment 1 if applicable, but be sure to address items a-c below):
a. Provide a link to the article
b. Briefly summarize the main idea of the article (1-2 sentences)
c. Comment on whether you think the article is “believable”
2. Provide the APA style citation for the peer-reviewed empirical research article (you can find this on PsycINFO using the Cite tool) AND the abstract (you may copy & paste and use “quotation marks” OR take a screenshot of the abstract).
3. Clearly indicate how the peer-reviewed empirical research article is related to the pop science article (1-3 sentences).
4. Indicate how you found the peer-reviewed publication (ex: it was directly cited in the pop science article; the author was mentioned in the pop science article; I searched for it on my own in PsycINFO using these keywords; etc.).
5. What is the main finding(s) of the peer-reviewed empirical research article? You should be able to find this in the abstract itself, but you can also find this information in the Discussion section of the paper. You may copy and paste directly from the article if you’d like, but be sure to use “quotation marks.”
6. Do you think the pop science article accurately portrayed the actual research findings of the peer-reviewed research article? Did the pop science article exaggerate or misinterpret the actual research findings? Do you think the peer-reviewed research article supported or refuted the pop science article?
7. What more would you like to know about this topic? Or, do you feel the research is “complete” and no additional questions need to be asked?
