This project is divided into three stages, which will be submitted throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality submissions. This is the second stage which requires writing an outline that you will use as the basis for your final essay.
Provide an outline of your entire final essay. This part of the assignment builds off the stage one assignment you completed a few weeks ago. You may use what you have already done in stage one as a starting point for this assignment.
This assignment should include the following components:
1. Introduction: Compose an introduction that provides:
Background information on the case.
Ethical theories, principles, or concepts that apply to your case.
At least one engineering code of ethics applied to this case (for example, you might consider whether the stakeholders followed the code or violated it).
A brief overview of your argument that discusses whether you believe the stakeholders in the case acted morally.
Why the issue is important, why you have decided to address it, and the implications for believing your argument to be true.
2. The argument supporting your thesis: This is the body of your essay. Set forth at least three premises to support your argument plus the material that supports or explains them. Be sure to use ethical material from the textbook along with outside research, if necessary. (It’s ok if you don’t have this all figured out just yet; do your best).
3. The objection or refutation of your thesis: This is where you highlight any objections or doubts that readers might have with your thesis or supporting evidence. You will demonstrate here that the objections are unfounded and remove doubt from the reader’s mind.
4. Conclusion: You may reiterate your thesis and stress its importance. You may also use this space as a call to action or discuss further implications of your thesis. Either way, it’s a chance to summarize where you’ve been and how engineers might avoid this situation from happening again in the future.
Please supply your outline in an MS Word document using an outline similar to the one used above.
There is no set word requirement for this assignment, but you should provide enough detail to demonstrate that you have thought about the essay and are looking for feedback to move forward at this stage.
