This assignment will require you to demonstrate your understanding of the two forms of associative learning, which are classical conditioning and operant conditioning. To improve the chances of a high score on this assignment, provide substantial, clear and detailed information and original examples (examples you create, not obtained from any source). Avoid brief definitions and vague descriptions/discussions/examples. Allow yourself plenty of time to complete the assignment in order to produce a quality submission. As with all assignments and assessments, and as stated on the syllabus, late submission is subject to 20% grade penalty and is NOT acceptable after one week of the due date. Remember to include a title page and reference page and cite your sources according to APA style.
Classical Conditioning:
Lauren has an irrational fear of flying on an airplane. Use classical conditioning theory to explain the process of how she learned this fear. Provide a definition of each of the terms used in this theory (US, UR, CS, CR), and give an original example of each term in Lauren’s conditioning to fear of flying. For example, describe the unconditioned stimulus and explain with an original example of an unconditioned stimulus as it applies to how Lauren learned to fear flying. Then describe the unconditioned response as it applies to Lauren’s case. Then do the same for the conditioned stimulus and the conditioned response.
Operant Conditioning:
Imagine that you are a behavioral psychologist who wants to help a father increase his daughter’s compliance in mowing the backyard without being reminded. Develop a plan (a plan that you create on your own from your own ideas) that will include both positive and negative reinforcement, and both positive and negative punishment. Your plan must demonstrate your understanding of the effects of reinforcement and punishment on specific behavior.
